Odyssey Victoria’s annual Short Story Competition is back for its 15th year, and this year’s theme is simply Fifteen.

We invite writers of all ages and experience to craft a short story (maximum 1,500 words) inspired by the theme. As in previous years, entries must include a reference to alcohol and/or other drugs (AOD), but the theme is open to interpretation and authors do not need to write from personal experience.

The competition will be open from 1 November 2026 to 31 January 2027, with first prize winning $1000 and a one year membership to Writers Victoria.

Please share this with anyone you think might be interested and happy writing!

Fifteen can mean different things to different people- fifteen years, fifteen minutes, fifteen hours, or fifteen years old. It can be a milestone, a memory, a moment that changes everything, or a slice of time that feels much longer than it is.
