The Overdose Prevention Program is based in the North West and South West catchments of Melbourne and in Geelong and Shepparton. It is a harm minimisation focused program raising the awareness, and reducing the impacts of fatal and non-fatal overdoses on the community. We work with people aged 16 and over who are using any substance that has the potential for overdose related harm. We provide a range of support from intervention and education sessions to intensive case management with assertive outreach support. We also assist people to access and learn to use take-home Naloxone, which is highly effective in reversing opioid overdoses.
Pictured above are Steve and Mishma who were invited by the Chisolm institute in Berwick to participate in their international overdose awareness week conference. They facilitated a discussion with Cert IV of AOD and Diploma of AOD students about fatal and non-fatal overdoses and their impacts on the community. They also spoke about the wider harms of non-fatal overdoses and the implications for loved ones, carers and friends.
