Centrelink Liaison

As part of a new federal government initiative, our Centrelink Liaison person, Rebecca, attends our Therapeutic Community in Lower Plenty once a week to assist residents to overcome any Centrelink issues they are experiencing. During her time with us, Rebecca has helped Services Australia to recognise that the time clients spend in a residential program, is equivalent to them working, so their Centrelink obligations should be reduced, and their financial support should be continued during this time.

This allows residents to pay off debts and fines, maintain their child support commitments, contribute to the cost of their treatment, and save a little to set them up in independent accommodation once they complete their treatment program. This practice is now being rolled out to all residential rehabs across Australia.
